Waypoint 2 Space Commercial Payload Specialists (CPS) provide a corps of commercial spaceflight professionals to service research organizations, payload operations and integration with sub-orbital and orbital operators during flight. Each CPS has completed Level 1 and Level 2 training as a minimum, in some cases Level 3 and are qualified to perform Extra-vehicular activity (EVA).
Our CPS backgrounds include:
- Over 50 years of cumulative NASA expertise in space operations;
- Over 25 years flight experience ranging from military to civilian operations;
- A highly educated, multi-disciplined staff specializing in areas such as engineering, physical sciences, human and health performance;
- Skilled and disciplined human test subjects.
The CPS corps also maintains a high level of physical and mental fitness which provides the best opportunity for mission accomplishment and success. This includes the physical currency requirement detailed by CFR Part 460 “Human Spaceflight Requirements”, Sub-part A “Launch and Reentry with Crew” by holding a FAA Class 3 medical certificate.
Additionally, Waypoint 2 Space Commercial Payload Specialists are trained in accordance to our FAA Safety Approval and maintain operational currency and training in:
- Accelerated G Adaptation;
- Microgravity Adaptation;
- Crew Resource Management;
- Hypoxia training and recovery;
- Launch and orbital vehicle ingress and egress;
- Launch and orbital vehicle emergency operations;
- Vehicle docking operations;
- Launch and orbital vehicle systems;
- IVA/EVA nominal and emergency procedures.
Waypoint 2 Space Commercial Payload Specialists work with payload providers, scientific agencies and vehicle operators to ensure operational feasibility and success of the payloads and experiments. Additionally, we can perform spaceflight operations for our clients ranging from pre-flight design and integration to on-orbit operations, and everything in-between.
Our services include, but are not limited to:
- Pre-flight training and consultation on payload or experiment operations;
- Assistance to payload and vehicle operators in the payload and review process required by CFR Part 415 “Launch Licensing”, Subpart D “Payload Review and Determination”;
- Assistance to payload and vehicle operators in the hazard analysis required by CFR Part 437 “Experimental Permits”;
- Assistance in flight rule development required by CFR Part 437 “Experimental Permits”, §437.71 Flight Rules;
- Nominal and emergency procedures training required by CFR Part 460 “Human Spaceflight Requirements”;
- A risk assessment of payload operations during flight meeting requirements set forth in CFR Part 460 “Human Spaceflight Requirements”;
- §460.9 – Informed consent;
- §460.45 – understanding hazards and risks to Spaceflight Participants;
- Perform payload or experiment operations during flight as coordinated with the pilot in command (PIC) in a safe and efficient manner;
- Assist the vehicle operator and PIC with passengers as needed during flight or perform nominal and/or emergency procedures or roles if necessary meeting requirements detailed by;
- CFR Part 437 “Experimental Permits”, Subpart C “Safety Requirements”, §437.73 “Anomaly recording, reporting and implementation of corrective actions”;
- CFR Part 460 “Human Spaceflight Requirements”, §460.15 – mitigating human factors issues experienced by spaceflight crews which may be augmented by carriage of passengers;
- Post flight analysis and debriefing.
